One of my favorite picture books of all time and a Caldecott honor book. Swimmy has stood the test of time, for both its beautiful art work and simple and sweet story of cooperation and kindness. A graphic artist and illustrator by trade, Lionni was the art director for Fortune magazine and began his children's book career by trying to create something to entertain his grandchildren. Lionni is also credited with helping Eric Carle find illustration work when he first came to America!
